Safe acess of 240 fuel pump. 200 1980

What is a safe method to acess the 240 fuel pump from the acess plate? I can easily remove the two rubber hoses on the right, the but one on the left is differant and I cant seem to get it off. I have read on BB that a heat gun may be helpfull, but is there perhaps a safer method?
