While swapping the alloy wheels from my wrecked turbo GLT to my “new” GL, I noticed that the brakes seemed a bit tight. On the Turbo I could grab the wheel studs and give the rotor a spin. On the GL I could rotate the rotors by hand, but they dragged and wouldn’t spin freely.
I’ve also noticed on the road that the GL seems to scrub off speed and not coast as smoothly as the old Turbo did. I don’t have any records for the car so I have no idea what work has been done on the brakes. The pads *look* ok, and the brakes *feel* decent without any odd pulling or noises, but the resistance is there and noticeable. I’m assuming this isn’t normal for a GL. I’ve found the problem, and the symptom, now anyone have a solution?
Also as a side note… the front rotors are solid and not the ventilated type. Can I just swap a vented rotor in there, or does it take a different hub/caliper or something? Both the GL and GLT are 84’s if it makes a difference.
Thanks everyone!
