Rear Muffler and Tail Pipe. 700 1990

I ordered a new rear muffler for my 90 740 Ti sedan. I neglected to order the tail pipe in hopes for something different. As I don't yet have the muffler I can't just look and see. Could I just weld or bolt on a straight tail pipe, such as a chrome tip job? Or do I need to have the curve to get it out of the hole in the bumper. Any help would be greatly appreciated because it needs to pass inspection on Tuesday.
