Want to start Aux. Cooling Fan when the AC compressor is on 200 1982

I would like to wire up my aux cooling fan to be on when the AC compressor is on. Is the single wire that heads into the AC compressor the signal wire that turns it on and off. If so, i plan to use it to fire a relay that will clos the fan power circuit.
