Increasing Tire Width 900 1991

I wasnt to increase the tire width on my '91 940 GLE from 185/65 to 195/60 or 205/55 R15 but i went to a tire shop and to the dealer and they both said that the only size i can use is what is on there now. I have a hard time believing that. I know these other sizes work on the SE and other versions. Will they work on mine?
