funny thermostat, just replaced 200 1992

Hey Board,
Been a while since I had any questions, well here it goes. I changed the thermostat on my mom's 240, it was running a little hot. No prob, got an OEM replacement, went in smoothly. Well its been two weeks, she asks me: My car's temperature guage does not rise at all. Me: I do not think its the instrument cluster -seems too odd. I know the thermostats are designed to fail in the open position. Is it reasonable to believe its just a bad thermostat? Just curious, BTW, everything else is cool; radiatior, pump etc.
