Diesel Kiki/Zexel Compressor Rebuilds

Kid's 940 compressor sounds like an Al Qaeda looking at the incoming end of a GBU-82: sort of a croaking sound, definitely with intimations of mortality. Mechanic has had "bad experience with Asian rebuilds." Anyone used a Diesel Kiki/Zexel rebuild and had good or bad luck?
