Well, I was handed down a 1988 244 GL, Silver Brick. Some sarcastically mock me, calling it the "silver bullet." After throwing down 375 bucks in a transmission repair, it quickly lost my affection. Realizing I'm one, poor bastard, and a new or even an old car is not in my grasp, I began to like this car again. Having left it at my sisters house, I realize how much I miss the big lugg. So I guess, to my point...this brick is definitely not in it for the technicalities. Various lamps, including but not limited to the dashboard, rooflamp, one or two of the brake lights, and the missing front head light, and now the odometer or mini-mileage reader, do not work. The systemboard keeps blowing fuses, and ultimatly frustrating me. Aside from technical blunder, this car is a damn brick with acceleration. It's not some Mack Truck, but it certainly isn't anything faster, save perhaps the even slower DL version, it's slower right? Aside from it's blazing turtle-like speeds, my suspension is fubar. The rear-left wheel keeps slowly deflating, but it has no major holes. If I drive on it, it stays inflated for weeks. I leave sitting, and that one tire becomes flat. The canter, I think that's what it is called (the angle of the top of the wheel to the bottom,) is off. The topside lays out more and the buttom side is tucked in more. On top of all of this, the previous owner ripped out the A/C and did some ghetto modification to reconnect things. Is this car a waste of time to put money and effort and time into? Pluses are leather seating, tinted windows, and a decent paint, silver never really wears off. Please help. I am basically a volvo fanatic, my parnets have had three, two of which we still own, and I have this one also. The first one we leased was a s40 turbo, yummmy....anyway, input would be helpful.
Thanks,
Chris
