What powers the blower motor for my AC/heater? 700

1987 760t: trying trying trying to get the AC working (i live in phoenix!!!!) and even if the darn thing is out of refrigerant (which it probably is since it hasn't worked in four years or so) shouldn't the blower still blow when i turn ont the AC? I found a purple wire which goes to the blower or at least very near the blower (it sort of disappears behind it) and tested it to see if any voltage came through...nothing. so i looked at another purple wire i had found at the control panel on my dash. at the back end of an orange plastic switcher about ten wires come off and go, errr um, elsewhere. one of these ten is a purple wire that looks like the one i found near the blower. so i pulled off these ten wires (all connected with a black rubbery connector thing) and found that the copper connection to the purple wire was sort of brown and rainbowish, not like the other connections which were brighter copper. so i took that switcher out of the car, took it inside, and dremel tool polished the copper to a high shine. plugged the wires back in but no blower (i was hoping this clean up job would help electricity get to the blower). problem is, i don't really know if this purple wire even powers the blower. so what powers the blower? where can i find it? and why isn't my blower blowing?
thanks for reading all this,
and thanks for the feedback,
trina
