bad cat/ bad turbo? 700 1986

Some of you might remember a post a week or so ago about excessive oil (black) at part throttle I experienced on my weekend trip to NY and back.

There were a few suggestions to look for. I have replaced the engine harness and conducted a compression test (to rule out a blown head gasket).

someone mentioned replacing the temp sensor under the intake in the vicinity of #2 cyl. I have not done this yet. I was hoping to find a test procedure to check it before I start replacing everything. (The harness needed to be done anyway).

aside from someone's suggestion to replace the temp sensor, I am thinking now:
1) bad cat
2) bad turbo (cringe)
3) fried "brain" (also cringe)

I have done the unplug test of the amm. amm goes into limp when disconnected, out of limp when plugged in. *(Incidentially, found out that I can spool up the turbo while in limp, with the amm disconnected. Not fluid by any means, but effective enough to know the turbo is spooling up. Might come in handy for troubleshooting the turbo in the future)?

so this rules out the amm as a cause.

any further suggestions?

Thanks for advice.
