OK, I admit it.
I was worried for nothing.
I had posted several posts on my latest hurdle, heavy black smoking, fouled plugs, "flat spot" during acceleration, rough idle, bad cat/turbo, bad head gasket, the list goes on and on. I even did a compression test!
I originally posted that I checked all the hoses. I had, but i neglected one. It seems I think too much for my own good. I reasoned that the small hose from the Air Control Valve could not be a factor in the ruptured hose equasion, since under boost, the valve should be closed. (maybe that isn't even right). In any case, I neglected to thing the process through enough to see that the manifold would be "backfeeding" through this hose.
Needless to say, this was the culprit. I wouldn't have found it for me changing the air control valve and sticking my finger right into the side of the hose when putting the boneyard valve in.
Thanks for all the suggestions from all those who helped me brainstorm.
I now know better how to "check" the hoses. REMOVAL looks like the only way to get the job done.
