O.D won't come on once off 200 1991

I have 240 auto '91.
My O.D won't come on even when the "yellow arrow" is off.
I fiddle with the button a few times and sometimes it works.
Other times I just need to stop and shut off the ignition and restart.
This has been a problem as I'm so used to turning off the O.D to slow
down or to overtake.
Will a change of the relay solve the problem?
Can anyone advice if turning off the O.D to slow down from say 70mph
affect the gear box in the long run.....

Sometimes I wonder if I'm over using that little button...
