Adjustable voltage regulator 700 1992

I am thinking of buying an adjustable voltage regulator (AVR) for my 745.

I read someplace that the AVR is better that nonAVR, since "by increasing voltage to 14.5V (vs 13.8V normally), this allows the electric fan to run quieter and headlights to run brighter, etc"

Anybody on this board with experience with an adjustable voltage reg?

I would appreciate your comments.
