Automatic control cover/knob fix 200

I have a 244DL automatic transmission. My AT control knob fell off in my hand and the little "arrow" for overdrive now stays on on the dashboard. It seems that a wire has broken off somewhere in the column. How do I re-attach this wire (where does it go?) and how do I properly re-install the cover-knob. Thanks for your help and expertise.
