Boost Gauge Installation 700 1986

I am installing a calibrated boost gauge in my 740. I tapped into the hose that goes to the OEM gauge with a t-fitting and ran the new tubing to the gauge. I connected the tubing to the gauge with the compression fitting, being careful (I thought) to keep the tubing tight against the inlet hole. I get no boost reading. I took it apart and confirmed that there is suction at the new tubing. I blocked the airflow to the OEM gauge in case there wasn't enough pressure to operate both, but still no reading. I am out of compression fittings. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Steve, NW of Chicago
