Check Engine Light on 240

I'm driving down the highway yesterday at about 70mph in my 90 244DL with the AC on and all of a sudden the check engine light comes on. Car is running fine, no power loss etc.... I continue to my destination and pull the engine code from the OBD, and it's 1-1-1 which means........... no problems!
The AC compressor on this car has been making a grinding noise when it cycles on since I bought it, and I've had this check engine light come on three times when the AC was on. At first I thought it was because the engine was overheating (which coincided with two check engine lights) So I replaced the plastic radiator with a Nissens three row, engine doesn't overheat anymore, but for some reason when AC is on, am still getting the check engine light, just once in a while, (3 times in 2 months). When I check the code, no problems with the engine. So is it possible that the AC compressor is starting to seize up intermittently? Will this cause the light to come on? I plan on replacing the compressor next month with a remanufactured one, but in absense of any apparent engine problems, could the AC compressor seizing up cause this to happen? Also, I was just at the car wash this time before this one went off. Thanks in advance for any advice. HT
