A.I.R. Pump 900 1996

In the past, the A.I.R. pump would turn on only when I started the engine. Recently, in a mere 12-mile driving distance, it turns on 2-3 times while driving. The roaning motor is much louder and at a higher pitch comparing to the sound it creates after engine is started. Is there something wrong with the check valve, the solenoid, or the pump? Please advise.
