My 86 740 was stalling when i came to a fast stop. I figured the idle control valve was clogged, so i pulled it out and cleaned it. It wasnt very dirty, but i cleaned it anyways. I also cleaned the TB and put on a new gasket. I put everything back together, adjusted the TB according to haynes manual (with feeler guages one between the wheel stop and one between the adjustment screw on TB). I went for a drive and was impressed with myself because the stalling problem was gone. When i started the car later on, the idle went up to 1500-2000. Heres the catch, it only does this when i start the car. This problem has occured in the past, but it has fixed itself. Sometimes when i rev the engine it goes back down to idle. After writing all that I HOPE SOMEBODY CAN HELP ME?
After reading other posts in archive, etc i have come up with some ideas already:
1. I fried the TPS with cleaner. Is there way to adjust? (I tried to be careful)
2. I did not adjust Throttle correctly (haynes said 1mm between throttle wheel and stopper and .4mm between adjust screw)
3. Bad connections
4. Vacuum leak
5. fried AMM or ECU
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ANY INPUT
