244 vs. a 144E 200 2000

I have been looking into getting a new daily driver for the upcoming school year, and so far I have found two cars in my price range. there is an 83 244 that seems to need a fuel pump and a 73'144E that runs but needs some definite body work and paint. the 144 has D-jet fuel injection and i have herd mixed opinions on that system. They both cost about $500, I would realy apprciate some opinions about each car to help me make up my mind.
