Catastrophic M46 failure 200 1978

Hi all,

I just looking for any idea anyone has of what might have happened to my transmission. While driving up a hill and shifting into second, bamm! No power to the wheels and the gearshift lever became loose, i.e. there were no positions to be had at all.

Could it be a broken shift fork? A linkage problem? A bushing problem? I am just interested in the probable cause. The archives don't seem to have any of these in them. Maybe I am searching with the wrong terms.

Thanks.
