rear end 'gasket' 700 1991

I'm loosing rear end oil from a small leak at the bottom of the rear end housing in the area of the drain plug. Area all around the pinion seal is dry. When I pull the diff back off to fix this mess (I can't wait), can I use that Permatex Blue non hardening goop for the "gasket"? Just happen to have a tube laying around if it is OK.
