940 mouse-mobile mystery??? 900

Mousemobile mystery

Okay, someone please try to help me figure this one out.

I’m the new owner of a 1995 945T.... nearly perfect condition, well taken care of. I bought it 9 weeks ago, in late June.

The previous owner lived in the country, I live in the town where I have never seen a mouse. The second day I owned it, I discover the dried up remains of a tiny baby mouse in the spare tire compartment. No big deal, I think, I cleaned it all out immaculately.

Time goes by... I change out the oil to synthetic, I flush the tranny, I go camping, I drive to Mt. Rainier. No more mice. I keep it locked with the windows shut in the carport.

Today, I smell something funky... I think maybe it’s the Lexol I put on last week. Sniffing around I open the spare tire compartment and there I find FOUR dead mice!!! These are teensy little mice... not more than 1 1/2 inches in body length... plainly they died recently. These mice are so small they couldn’t possibly have jumped up into an open door.... or unlikey they could have crawled in a hole.

Question: WHERE did these friggin’ mice come from? Are they related to the first mouse I found? Are they the remnants of a mouse family that lived there in the country from the PO?

Could they possibly have been living in the 940 all summer? Without a drop of water or scarcely a think to eat? (I did find some dried up popcorn and peanuts under the back seat... I don’t know if they can have gotten to the back seat from the spare tire compartment. How can they have lived 65 days without water? Hasn’t rained here in months) Could they possibly be coming and going to get food and water... and just living in the car?

I did notice a hole in each rear wheel well, about 1 1/2 inches long, that seems to lead into some compartment forward of the side pullout storage compartments. Still, given the size of these mice, they’d have to be the Jackie Chan of mice to make that jump.

OR... are these mice unrelated to the first dead mouse I found? Somehow are mice attracted to 940’s? I parked my 245 with the windows open for 14 years and never saw a single mouse dropping.

Very mysterious... anyone have any explanation? Are there any easy access points to the body compartment on the 945 that a midget mouse could come and go through?

Any help much appreciated.
