Bad Mass Air Flow Sensor? 700 1987

I've looked through the FAQs, but I'm not sure what I'm fighting here. 1987 745 GLE, 5 speed. On a somewhat routine basis it will act as if it's running out of gas. I.e., you're accelerating through the gears, and it just fags out. Doesn't miss, doesn't buck, just acts as if it's not getting fuel, accelerator response is duff. But, this disappears almost immediately, and does not happen again until the car has been turned off and started again. And, it does not happen every time. The only thing I've been able to notice is that it only happens within the first five minutes of driving, and it does not appear to matter if the car was recently running or it's running for the first drive of the day. Is this an indication of a mass air flow sensor that's on its way out?
Thanks
