I purchased and installed the new inexpensive Bilstein Touring Class shocks IPD now offers about a month ago. After a few weeks driving, I'm happy to report that these shocks are fantastic! They are a little on the stiff side when riding around town, but not harsh at all, just firm. On the highway, the ride is perfect, the car feels much more stable and controlable at high speeds and is very comfortable. I highly recommend these shocks and the $30+ price makes them a bargain.
My other 144 (now a parts car) had the KYB low pressure shocks (the grey ones) and they were too soft, too much body lean in the corners. The KYB high pressure shocks (the white ones) are WAY too stiff for my taste, they are only good for glass-smooth roads, otherwise they ride like a rock. Oil shocks, like Boge, IMO are no good on the highway since, unlike gas pressured shocks, the dampening does not change with speed or road conditions. The TC shocks are clearly the best choice for these cars, too bad they are not available for all classic Volvos, only 140's & 240's (and a few newer models).
