Flooding experience

(89 240)

While driving in a parking lot in last weeks rain, I got stuck.

First, my stupidity, I forgot I had the air intake snorkel pointed down into the front spoiler (from fooling around with ram air last year).

Did not realize the water was that deep, drove in fine. Then in the middle, engine cut out and would go 'clunck'. Would not turn over. That's when I realized that water began seeping in through the doors. Floor pans were filled. As 4x4's passed by in the water the car would float up from the currents. Jumped out through the window, the water level was knee high. Luckily a truck pushed me out.

Pushed it to a dry spot. Opened the air filter, soaked. Air intake hoses were full with water. The engine would turn but it sounded funny, like a broken timing belt.

Removed all the plugs, (wet with water) and the throtle body. Cranked the engine with the plugs removed and without the fuel pump relay for a while. Let her 'dry' as I removed the water from the floors with my coffee mug.

Put everything back. Started up. Water was gushing out from the tail pipe. Did get a faint alt light. Changed the oil (got milky) and drove home.
