Fuel pump fuse question. 200

Well, I replaced my fuel pump and filter after the fuse was getting HOT last week.

I even had my car towed home.

What was happening was the fuse was smoking, and the solder was melting out of the end caps.

So tonight my package from FCP Groton arives (thanks if you read the board)

And I whip out my OEM goodies and start wrenching. I get fairly messy, and 1.5 hours later, Everything is shiny and new under the rear driver's wheel.

So I fire the car up, and here we go again.. fuse spits solder out the ends, and smokes the rosin out of the tube.. ARHERHERGGG~!!! I yell.. as my 135 dollars seems illplaced into the wrong parts.

So i experiment.. I say to myself, if this fuse wants to blow, so be it.

So far, no blow.. I'm using the spec, 16 amp fuse.

My only idea is that maybe these glass tube types don't make as good of contact with the prongs, and the end caps heat up to beat Hell.

I have the tabs bent in to make the fit tight. I have not yet used emery cloth though on the tabs. They are blue from heat.

Anyway, what are your guys thoughts or suggestions? I heard BMWs had a problem with fuel pump fuses heating up, and came up with a 'fix' which was some sort of tension clip that fits in the fuse block to hold the prongs tight on the fuse. I assume BMWs use similar fuses, and a Bosch fuel pump like this???

Thanks for any ideas.. I'm at a loss. I drove the car for 30 minutes, and the fuse did not blow.

Am kicking myself now for getting a new fuel pump, when I was pretty sure, the old one was OK.

it was the original (112k miles) but sounds exactly like the new one.

The filter was original too, and thus needed replaced for good measure.
