I posted last week wondering why my car went "ding, ding, ding" everytime I hit the brake. Turns out my brake lights were not working. I replaced bulbs and fuse #16 (1984 245GLT) and still it goes "ding" when I depress the brake pedal.
Now my attention has turned to the brake switch and I just wanted to make sure that what I have pictured is the right thing. If everything is displaying properly, the image shows the brown-bodied switch above the brake pedal, behind the steering rod assembly. The switch terminal on the right has a blue-red wire attached and the terminal on the left has two red-green wires attached.
Not knowing much about it, I assume the single, blue-red wire brings current in and when the brake pedal is pressed, the current "should" pass through to the two red-green wires which carry the current back to the left-side and right-side brake lights. Providing this assumption is correct, if I connect the red-green wires to a power source, my brake lights should work. (provided the wiring between there and the brake lights is intact)
Can someone confirm whether or not this makes sense? Sorry for the long post but I wanted to give all pertinent details.
Thanks,
Märt
