auto trans slow to change up 200 1992

My 92 wagon trans (3sp+overdrive) has started hanging in first, even under light acceleration when it ought to change up real soon. Instead, it hangs in first until 30kph or so before a naturally hash change, because revs by this time have climbed unecessarily high. Is this a service-repairable thing or is it a bad sign or what?? The trans seems to work otherwise fine.
