Keys out battery light on 200 1983

My 83 240turbo has 274k miles on it. The other night I came in yard turned it off , and the battery warning light came on, I pulled the key and it stayed on. Went inside hoping the driveway elves would fix it overnight...they didn't battery is dead. Any ideas where I sould start looking.
I have been ignoring a possibly related symptom of when I put my foot on brake the parking lights come on in front . This has been like this since the car came back fom getting repainted.
