No OD, 1988 740 700 1988

I'm considering buying a 1988 740 Turbo Wagon. 225,000 miles. No OD. Has the AW Tranny. The button works; the OD light comes on. No OD. I assume I'm looking at a rebuild. Any other possibilities? I'm used to my '86 740 with the ZF4HP22 tranny which gets rebuilt every 100K miles
