Is there a way to test power stage? B230F 200 1988

I decided to clean some contacts in the engine so I slid the black plastic cover off what I later learned is called the power stage. Sure enough, I got a spark like when you short out the battery (the red wires were a clue that I decided to ignore). Is there a way to test the power stage for any damage, or if it it the cause of the intermittent stalling I have had for over a year?
