I have a 1991 Volvo 240 that has always had a little play in the front end, but its hard to notice until you hit highway speeds (80+ mph, it has trouble tracking a straight line) or going over bumpy roads. I've taken it to a few shops, some say they can't find anything, some say the only thing they can find is a ball joint that is (a little) worn, and Goodyear claims its my right inner tie rod thats noticeably worn, and that my alignment is shifting (when I took it to have my warrantied alignment checked with an oil change). Bieng in an apartment complex, I don't have a whole lot of time or room to really do as many checks for these things on my own. I'm going to have a local shop check the inner tie rod again. What does it sound like to you all? If it is the tie rod or ball joint (or both), where would be the best place to buy one, and would I be able to replace this with simple hand tools (I would be able to drive to a house where I can do this, not my apartment parking lot)? Any links to step by step instructions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for all your support, this board is a huge help.
