Tranny filter 200 1989

Went for a drive today and saw a great long swath of smoke billowing behind me. When I pulled off the highway and was waiting to turn, the smoke sort of gushed out from beneath my wagon. Turns out to be a leak in the stainless steel ATF line that goes/comes from the radiator, I'll be replacing it tomorrow.

But I've got a filter kit, the car is up on the ramps, the fluid is drained, and I'm wondering - should I or shouldn't I?

That's my question. I ask because I read something that made me think that Volvo no longer recommends filter replacement....?!?!?!
