Hey board,
Long time no see. Let's see, I did an extensive search on past posts already with no luck pretaining to my question. ...although the FAQ's was of help as usual. I am doing my exhaust manifold gaskets tomorrow AM. I took a rachet to them today while the engine was warm and they came out easy.....to easy. Not only did the nut come off, the entire stud, it screwed right out of the engine on the one closest to the front of the car ( sorry I do not know which cylinders are which :) Is this a problem if they all come out, and put them back in? The FAQ also said to replace the studs, but how would I determine how far to put them in, a friend said that if you put them in too far you can mess up a "water channel"?. Is the Volvo a good engine where there is an end to the stud hole to prevent such a disaster.
Regardless thatnks for any info, and it was kind of funny because I was going home from college (up route 122 in Worcester MA back to Athol) and all of a sudden the gasket 'blew', and there was a ticking. I thought there were some huge engine problems, nope, just the OE exhaust gaskets crappin out at 188,544 miles on the clock. HEHEHHE :)
thanks,
steve
