Pre pump fuel line removal 200

I have gotten the bung nut loose (thanks to the IPD BUng Nut Tool), but I cannot get the return fuel line hose off.
No clamp, but a barb or bumpy nipple which I can pry the line away from, but it just springs back into position.
What is holding this thing on.? Manual no help, in fact suggests removing both ends of return line, no idea why.
