A/T AW71 not shifiting from 3rd to 4th gear once car is driving several minutes 900 1993

I recently bought a 1993 Volvo 940 Turbo. The transmission is an AW71. Once I am driving for several minutes it doesn't want to shift from 3rd to 4th gear; all the other gears (1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd )shift just fine. Today I was practically driving 70 mph before shifting. I noticed there is an excessive amount of trans fluid, could that be causing it? Any ideas on what to do? FYI: car has 115,00 miles
