Catalytic converter differences 200

Is there a difference between the catalytic converter used on a '79 240 (B21 w/K-jet) and an '80 240 (same engine & FI)?
I removed the cat from my '79 parts car (which is going to the salvage yard) because it had only seen about 15,000 miles of service. I took a glance underneath the '80 and the shape of it's cat is different. The '80 is cylindrical (it may be the original one) and the '79 is more box shaped (sold and installed by Midas). The take off part looks like it would bolt up the same.
Other than shape, what's the difference?
