I just changed the rear pads on my '89 245. The old pads came out with 2 shim-type-of-things (2 per pad). They're stainless, maybe 5mil or so thick. Are these anti-squeal shims or something else?
I didn't turn the rotors. But I read about making several stops from 40mph in order to wear in the pads, as well as helping to reduce squeals. Is this usually effective? If so, how many times would one expect to have to do this? (I use to use some spray on gummy stuff to stop squeals, but decided to try this instead).
Thanks much,
Flint.
