Sunroof won't close completely 200

When I got to work today I couln't close the sunroof on my 92 240 all the way. Got it to about 90% closed (open about 3 inches), then the handle[started spinning (handle seems loose). I retracted the sunroof slightly, then I was able to crank shut - until the handle again started spinning at the 90% closed position. Any ideas on what's wrong?
