burnt rubber smell 700 1989

89' 740 gl, 180k, runs strong, however....if ive been driving for a while, then get out and stand outside of the car towards the front, there is an odor of burnt rubber. its most noticable if the engine has been run hard or it is really hot outside. any help in tracking down the source would be appreciated. thanks in advance___mark.
