rusted exhaust pipe 200

Hello. I'm new to the board and I've set out to replace the over-the-axel (?) exhaust pipe on my '88 240 wagon and am having a serious problem removing the old pipe due to rust. Specifically, the old exhaust pipe rusted through and broke off right near the slip fit joint going into the rear muffler, leaving me about a ragged 1/2 inch with which to grip. I can't budge it. I did a preliminary seach on this site and see that using a blow torch is suggested to soften and expand the metal, but is this the only way? I don't have access to a blowtorch, or a drill.. I did slather some oil on the area, but it just seemed like an extremely impotent gesture.

So, should I just give up and take it to a muffler shop or try using rust-dissolvent..? I've already purchased the new pipe and clamps.

Thanks for any help
