Upgrade alternator(s)? 100 amps on Ford... 200 1983

Good Day,

Am turning more hillbilly in old age and like rural living and camping w/ some modern conveniences. Would like to try newfangled electronics like power inverter so I can have AC wherever I go. Electric shaver, tunes, lights, small b.w. tv. Perhaps PC someday.

Present alt has 70 amp rating, am also running elect rad. fan most of time so that adds say 10 amp to base minimum need. 10 more for stereo, 15 for lights. Enough juice so far, but it's summertime still.

I'd experiment w/a "previously owned" heavy duty alt. that would fit or perhaps invest in a new state of the art unit if I get really serious.

How bout this? Have a backup alternator from previous '83 242 DL sitting 'round doing nothing. Could I finally remove A/C kompressor, mount a second alt. in there, and double the amps put out? Add a second battery (a la DIESEL) to provide bigger "reserve".

Has anyone encountered a dual alternator setup anywhere? Volvo did go to dual fuel pumps....

Rolling away the Doo
