car idles bad after 15 min 140-160 1975

my 164e (1975) runs fine for about 15 min. then the idle drops and the car starts to die. car will run, but when you are at a stop the car needs to be feathered to keep it running, anyone have some advise? idle is set at about 900rpm's.
any information is helpful....thanks bob
