I'm replacing the front pipe of the exhaust on my '87 240 dl wagon. Problem is the bolts connecting it to cat converter pipe are about impossible to get off. They seem to maybe have a spot weld on the cat converter side and won't budge. Can't even get a socket or wrench on them. The front portion side shouldn't be a problem. Any suggestions? Can you hacksaw between the 2 pieces throuh the gasket? Should I cut the pipe off just in front of the cat convrter to make it easier to work with? Can I hacksaw through the flange (?) of the old pipe where it meets the flange (?) of the cat convrter? I don't have a wide array of tools like grinders and torches. How hard, or impossible will it be to hacksaw through this mother? Any pitfals I should look out for? If I buy a torch can you use one of those types you find at Walmart? How to do this? And how safe if this? Would hate to blow up or burn my car up with me under it. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
thanks, John
