'89 16valve oil pressure light.... 700

List,

Oil pressure light is coming on seemingly for no reason. Do these oil pumps fail often? A possible wiring problem with the pressure sending unit? Light will stay off if you keep the revs up some, but then, every now and then as she settles back to an idle, the light will come on and not go off without turning the engine off and restarting. Please, somebody tell me my motor isn't shot... I hate waiting while someone else is poking around under my hood.
