I have my original 1986 Made in Switzerland cluster with a speedometer/odometer which only seemed to work after 1/2 hour of driving.
Thinking I could switch in a 1987 cluster I purchased one and the speedo worked, right away and at low speeds. I assume then that the sending unit is OK. The problem however was that most warning lights did not, and the fuel gague went to empty after I filled it. The 1987 cluster is Japanese and mounting points for gauges are really different.
So, I got another cluster from a 1986 (Japanese again) which looked very close to the 1987. I put this in and the speedo only worked at speeds > 60KMH, although the rest seemed OK.
Next I tried putting the 1987 into the 1986 cluster (had to cut out the area around the service odometer) and it will not read at low speeds and is definately reading low for the actual speed.
Is there a compatibility problem between the 1987 and the 1986? (i.e. fuel gague and warning lights for alternator?)
Greg (at unknown speed... still)
