Fuel Tanks in 544s-Interchangeability? 444-544

I have a 1965 PV544 that I'm in the process of making road worthy. My fuel tank is beyond salvageable-hence, I have been searching for a replacement. I received a comment back from a well-known East coast supplier of new & used parts that he only had a tank for a B-16 (?), inferring that the fuel tanks used on B-16 equipped (pre-'61?) 544s would not fit on my B-18 equipped model. I knew that some items were different between early & late model 544s-is this another one? If so I need to limit my search!
