The Stereo install is making me nuts!! 700

When I bought my 91 740 T it had a Sony Casette player, so I decided to swap my Audiovox in it's place, To start with I got the wrong plug, No problem I got plenty of solder and heat shrink tubing. Now when I pulled the Sony I discovered that only the front two speakers appeared to be wired up. After trying to determine what color codes were I got out my multi meter put on "tweet" and discovered that the back speakers had a common ground. So I ran wires to both rear doors.

The front wires seemed to be normal or I made the mistake of believing they were (although they had 2 AA sized Caps in the lines) After wiring everything up I turned the Audiovox on and everything seemed to work ok until I started to bring the base level up, at that point the system shut off after burning a foil lead in the filter and fuse box! Bummer Stereo not probably worth fixing. Ah well it was impossible to read in the day light.

At this point I'm inclined to think that I have to pull the kick panels again in the front and splice 2 sets of new leads to the front speakers and to heck with the car harness. It did have the Volvo Preamp but I disconnected the plug from that

So how would those speakers been wired in the original set up? any guesses as to why the 2 caps would have been added?

Wonder what Olaf had been drinking or smoking when he designed the harness color codes that swap 3 times from the dash to the rear door?

Woody
