B20 head coollant passages 1800

I pulled the head off my '70 1800 with a B20E to replace the seals in the water pump and was looking at the head. About 18 months ago I had hardened seats installed and the ports enlarged. At that time I discovered a pipe in the head that was loose. The machinist was able to secure it in place and life was good.

Now I have the head off and I think it may be loose again, but I can't recall for certain it's the same one. When I stick my finger in the thermostat hole on the top of the head and towards the spark plug side of the engine, I feel a tube that protrudes towards the front of the engine, perhaps all the way to the freeze plug. I cannot tell for certain. It rattles about a bit but I cannot move it fore and aft.

Should this pipe be further back in the head? Could its displacement cause symptoms other than overheating, such as coolant loss into the oil? I've not experienced either problem, so I wonder if I'm OK. Even so, I can't shake the feeling that this pipe is in the wrong place. Is it?
