fuel pump relay switch jump rules 200

I am testing my main fuel pump. To do this I did the famous jump technique. The pump comes to life with a strong whurrrr. I jumped with just a wire (no switch or in-line fuse. Can I safely attempt to start the car to isolate the problem to the relay switch?
